I found that cairo requires some gtk+ libs and headers to build, yet gtk+ has cairo as a requirement. Am I missing the point somehow ? I hadn't been able to find an up-to-date Gnome build sequence doc so I put my own together based on starting from scratch :-
libxml2 libxslt gtk-doc glib libIDL ...... glitz cairo pango atk gtk+ .... etc
