After looking in the Ubuntu Packages (http://packages.ubuntu.com/intrepid/devel/) i found out that there are actually 4 automake packages, of which 'automake' is version 1.10.x. So i apt-get'ted that and now i don't get the error anymore. I do get some other errors about missing packages (gdk, gdk-X11 and gtk+), but i guess that will be just a case of installing these. I'll try that tomorrow, because it is bedtime in belgium :)
