As mentioned on desktop-devel-list and deskbar-applet-list recently, Deskbar Applet's new NewStuffManager feature will not be ready by the 2.16 timeframe, and we would like to remove NSM from deskbar 2.15/2.16.
Consequently, we seek approval to break UI freeze. An alternative (that is less preferred by us) is to not have a deskbar 2.16 release and present deskbar 2.14 as part of GNOME 2.16. In particular, this would involve 1) removing the small "Update Available" annotation in the list, and the two buttons "Check For Updates" and "Update" on the Searches tab. The "More..." button remains, since it was part of 2.14. http://blogs.gnome.org/attachment/nigeltao/2006/07/30/0/updates2.png 2) removing the "New Extensions" preferences tab (and the associated installation progress dialog) http://blogs.gnome.org/attachment/nigeltao/2006/07/30/0/new-extensions.png This is a non-trivial (but straightforward, IMHO) patch. Apologies for bringing this up so late in the release cycle.
