Yes, I think that forming a sentence on its own by adding those colons at the end should solve any potential problems for languages with declension system. Nevertheless, I can only think of a problematic case where there would be no ngettext implemented for declinable words bound with the value/numeral placed beforehand/afterwards, but this seems to be not the case.
