I had this crashing on me too. After doing some extensive research using
Google I discovered it was due to the keyboard plugin.
On my Fedora-12 system I used the configuration editor GUI for Gnome. Goto:
"->apps->gnome_setting_daemon->plugins->xrdb" and uncheck the "active" box
on the right hand window.
I have no idea why this fixed the crashing at login. Maybe someone else has
an idea.
