Samba *client* support comes from the main Samba repository. I think that having some Samba builds would be useful. Also, Martin Pitt has been doing work on getting Samba to run as a normal user, which means (once POSIX extensions can be enabled in libsmbclient[1]), it would make a good replacement for the file sharing we do through WebDav in gnome-user-share (and exposed in the Sharing panel).
