Since live.gnome.org hangs, i send out my first draft of the front-page implementation plan this way.
Whats the better place to publish the milestone deliverables? http://live.gnome.org/GnomeWeb/TwoPointTwentyseven/CMS or http://live.gnome.org/GnomeWeb/Plone/Implementation in my plan there i point out 2 strategies to add content to the front-page... i prefer strategy 1 but this should be discussed. ===== Implementation plan for website front page ===== Collage is the ideal solution to build a frontpage because it allows editors to arrange pieces of content very freely. Though, a training (2 hours) for editors is needed as Collage and associated concepts (adding content, integrating smart folders or RSS feeds in Collage) may be a bit complex. *Structure* - Collage - content-type in website root. id = "front-page" name = "start" show_title = False show_description = False Within Collage (Tab "Manage Page") rows and columns can be created. Within rows and columns content can be added. *Add content to Collage* -- Strategy 1: Only add existing content types and do not create content types within Collage. All content which is only used on the frontpage should go in a special folder which is not displayed in navigation, say, "/front-page-folder". PRO: --- All front-page only content (banner, etc.) in all versions from any time at one place. --- Editors can organize their content as they need (sub folders, etc.) --- Content is better accessible for editors and not hidden in a collage/row/column structure. --- Content can easily used anywhere else. CONS: --- To add something to Collage it has to be created somewhere else. This may disturb the workflow a bit. -- Strategy 2: Create front-page only content types within Collage. PRO: --- Better workflow. CONS: --- Less accessible for editors. *Content includes...* - Images, - Pages, - Smart Folders to aggregate content-listings (e.g. events, news, ...), - RSS Feeds, ... Anything else.
