56k should be ok if you deselect the G.711 codecs in the preferences (and maybe even the G.726 ones). Look into the "General History" to see which codecs are used. On the other hand there is no guarantee that you really get the full speed if you have a bad line, a 56k Modem gives you _up to_ 56k downstream and 33.6k upstream, but things may be worse. Try uploading and downloading big (~ MBytes) files at the same time to see how much you can get with your line.
