Obviosuly, this is another rexample where options to pass through to patch, diff, etc., should be configurable in an external tla.conf rather than hardcoded.
No, there is no reason you would not want to pass --binary. Plus you'd get people passing -C or --ed and and screwing up the contents of their archives. Configuration options only make sense when there's more than one right choice, and that doesn't apply here.
