I did this trick for tla-test-* ;-) But, it is not enough if you want to be safe, I would also have to change PATH, LD_LIBRARY_PATH, ... to the defaults. And I also need to trust programs that they honor HOME and do not botch my other files by accident. A test account is cheap to create (if you are root on your machine), it is safer as it cannot mess up my files and it has all settings to default ...
