"Close to", but "branch" is what some other people call fork. It is
not only an archive-side operation, but can also modify your working
tree. Roughly, it can do "tag + switch" in one command. It's not a
huge difference, but allows someone who don't know "switch" (which
itself isn't obvious to accomplish in tla for non-expert users) to
work with branching easily.
