Thanks for noticing this. Another option is to replace the embedded font with one of the free ones like Liberation Serif, which is metrically equivalent to Times New Roman.
All of the FSF-endorsed distro maintainers aren't on this list. To be sure it's captured as an actionable item, it would be helpful to report bugs in the relevant packages to the distro channels (for example: https://trisquel.info/en/project/issues.)
