BusyBox doesn't gather copyright assignemtns, hence why it is hard for
them to enforce the copyright.  It also shows why it is a smart move
to assign ones copyright to another entity so that they can handle the
legal issues for you, like it is done for the GNU project where the
Free Software Foundation handles all such issues.

The BusyBox maintainers can only blame themselfs sadly, and not the
GNU GPL.
