Robert Menes - on - Rockbox Open Source Digital Audio Firmware Rockbox is an open source, GPL firmware replacement for many digital audio players. From the Archos Jukebox 6000 to iPods, from the iriver H100 to the SanDisk Sansa, Rockbox runs on a wide variety of players, and adds tons of new features and functions that the stock firmwares have never thought of. Among many of Rockbox's features are: playback for additional codecs like Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, Muspack, Monkey's Audio, various chiptune formats (like SID, NSF, and more), MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 video playback, lots of games, and more. Written from scratch in C (with bits of assembler for speed-specific functions), Rockbox is the combined effort of many talented hardware hackers and coders. Ports can be started by any interested party with the hardware and the talent!
