The authors of the GPLed software, the copyright owners, still own the
copyright to any copy made of their
work. The GPL states that the authors of the work covered by the license grant
the right to use and
distribute their work to anyone interested, as long as they follow a set of
conditions presented in the GPL.

The copyright owners won't lose their rights over their work just because
someone made an extra copy of it.
