And not because the court cases would have been about the GPL, but
because the have been about copying without license.

Since acceptance of the GPL is entirely optional, there will not be
cases about the "merits" of the GPL as such.  There might just be cases
about differing interpretations of particular clauses.

This has not happened so far either.  So it would appear that the GPL is
sufficiently clear to concerned parties not to need further
interpretation in court.
