This talk will cover the basics of getting and installing Shorewall along with some of the more straightforward and common configurations (e.g., using Shorewall on a gateway system to provide firewalling services between your LAN and the Internet). The emphasis is on the easy nature of Shorewall configuration and how Shorewall assists the administrator. A very brief overview will also be provided of some Shorewall's more advanced features. In 2006 he started Connexer, Ltd., a one-man show providing IT consulting services specializing in open source. Since then he has continued as an active contributor to Debian in various capacities (and currently maintains 51 packages in Debian) and provides consulting services to clients in a wide variety of market sectors. There will also be help given for those who wish to install Linux for the first time. Hardware hacking projects are also welcome, and we can also teach people the basics of hacking with Arduino and other open source hardware. Sometimes they go out to eat afterward. Bring something to show off and discuss!
