Well, most of the discussions are about lily, and if
one has problems compiling, chances are others have too,
or can help

Urg, i see.  For 1.1 you need gcc 2.8 or egcs.
I haven't made configure barf on 2.7, because 2.7 is
ok for the 1.0 tree...
