Isn't this the kind of thing ./configure is supposed to catch?

Does anyone have the magic list of things to upgrade on RedHat 5.2 to
be able to install EGCS 1.1?  I got about four levels deep, and gave
up.  My last RedHat upgrade was pretty disastrous, so I was going to
take the advice about only upgrading what you need.
