Please specify what Windows version you are using and
which Lilypond version you installed (did you find it
from www.lilypond.org?). I hope you didn't change the
suggested directory path during the installation, 
unfortunately a few settings are hard coded to match
this path.

I cannot see anything in the startup files where
the computer could get stuck, so I don't have any
clue to what the problem is.

You could try to run setup.exe ones again. It will not
try to reinstall anything that already has been installed
but if you by mistake happened to exclude some component
during the first installation, it should add it.
