I had noticed this as well (I have the same 'rs' on my machine).
What I _used_ to have to do was run configure, then hand-edit
the config.cache, then re-run configure.

I was considering a change to the g-wrap configure script so that it
actually tests 'rs'..  Just running 'rs --version' and checking the
return value would be sufficient, as RScheme will return 0 and the
ReShape will return 1.  Easy test to write, I just haven't done it.
