postgres support and missing $ amounts in account detail

I just tried gnucash with postgres support, following everything in the
readme file.  After saving into the postgres db, quitting, then
reloading all the detials of the accounts had no values in them and I
got this warning in the console I launched gnucash from...

Warning: PrintAmountInternal: Bad numeric.

My environment is Gentoo Linux 1.4, which uses gcc 3.2.
I'm using gnucash 1.6.8 and postgres 7.2.3.  

Attached you will find a trimmed dump of the database.  I hope this
