report display oddity

I am getting unwanted characters in the report display, snippet
follows....

Money In        £168.68
Money Out       
Money Out       £0.00
Difference      £168.68

How can I get rid of the Â?

Originally saw this in 1.6.8. and have just installed 1.7.8 with the
same result, running RH 8.0

Apologies if this has been done to death before, please point me at the
right thread if it has
