Last time I tired, the swig interfaces still worked.  Just not well
documented.

Although there was one 'bug'/feature: I couldn't figure out how to 
turn perl arrays into GList and v.v. and a lot of the routines use
lists in the API.

This issue is one of the big ones for swig/perl
