Linas, Please check your facts before going ballistic:
a) Finance::YahooQuote is older than Finance::Quote -- Dj's first release of F::YQ was on 1998/10/01; my first Debian release of it was on 1999/03/22 or _over a full year before Paul ever released F:Q_. Who accusses whom of forking, please? b) When I started to use/adopt/extend F:YQ _years_ ago I emailed you guys (if memory serves, to Rob B who knew me via Debian, and I think I CC'ed you; in any event that would have been in 2000 or so) and _never_ heard a word back. I offered it for gnucash' adoption because I was extremely symathetic to gnucash. So maybe you should complain somewhere else, please. This really is a historical accident. When F::YQ was born, it covered North America only. It relied on Yahoo. Over time, Yahoo offered more markets via their regional serves. I first forked that internally in my smtm project (see cpan, freshmeat or google) because I found no elegant way to overload the different URLs -- without going the F::Q way which c) didn't exist at first and d) had more overhead / was more complex / didn't do array download [ some of these points may be faulty, my recollection only ]. My first mini-fork used a UK URL as it offered me European symbols I couldn;t get anywhere else. I also added proxy support via LWP which I needed to use this (for smtm) from behind the firewall at work. Years and several releases of smtm and the related beancounter project (also cpan, freshmeat or simply google) later, I was able to unify all that ... because Yahoo now offered global symbols under one URL (which you seem to be unaware of as per your 2nd paragraph). That is essentially the story of my fork and later re-join of F::YQ which I now happen to maintain outright, and still maintain for Debian. Please look at 0.20 which now supports a very vast number of symbols, incl earnings, valuation ratios and what have you (though maybe not (yet?) globally). I would be in favour of a more reasoned looked at features and requirements in light of a possible fusion. But first we need to count bodies and see if F::Q is still active.
