Windows gets around this by using Ctl-Alt-Del. Indeed, XP has
a UI timeout, where it will return to the 'login' screen after
a period of time (without killing an existing session). You can
login again to regain your session, or someone else can login
to start another session.
Basically, it lets you have multiple sessions concurrently,
which only one session "active" at a time. Think "screen"
but for X. ;)
