First suggestion - try running ldconfig.

If that doesn't work, ls -l /usr/X11R6/lib/libXmu.so.6 and see whether
the symlink points to anything.

Much Thanks, my system is Back!
 /etc/ld.so.conf did not exist, but three old back up versions did.  I copied the one with the most directories in it to /ld.so.conf and ran ldconfig, and , wa la, everything works!
