The OFX/QFX file importer inserts the "OFX > ext. info" string into the Notes field.
I found that there actually is a preference setting for this, at the bottom of the page in Preferences>Online Banking, called "Use Non-SWIFT transaction text". Uncheck it and the extra text no longer appears.
