Sounds like https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/FAQ#Q:_I_cannot_get_any_report_to_display_not_even_the_sample_reports._All_that_displays_is_an_empty_tab.
Have you followed those instructions? Also, as Greg said, sometimes you have to wait a while (especially the first time) for a report.
