despite the error it does start up GnuCash, however, the preference page
still is totally non-responsive.  When you try and change ANY option, it
doesn't allow you do so, totally non-responsive.  i wasn't really worried
about it cause i thought an appropriate css file would be a good enuf
substitute for me.  

i've tried it with and without sudo on that last line that generated the
error message.
