Do get a better view on this issue: there is no one else having this
problem with EU bank accounts?
I might have be wrong with my impression that this must be an issue for
much more users than one person.

Aqbanking is a separate project that GnuCash uses.
I see on their main site (which you linked) they have their own mailing list.
Perhaps check there for more specific help.
