No. An extra option to choose between old and new behaviour is *never* the best way to solve something. It may be from the naive point of view of a user. But it leads to unmaintainable code. If we would have added such an option for each time a user didn't like a user interface change we would by now have a preference dialog of 30 tabs. Each time an option to choose between old and new behaviour is requested, what really should happen is analyse the perceived benefits of old and new behaviour, look which ones can be combined in an improved design and make compromises based on relative importance of the various benefits. That's what has started on the bug report.
