David, On Linux Mint any orphan menu items are not removed automatically from the users menu but the uninstall process reports orphaned menu items after an app is removed and asks you if you want to remove or retain them, at least when the uninstall is triggered from the menu system. I can't recall whether it does that for a manual uninstall of the program or when an uninstall is triggered from a build directory using "ninja uninstall".
