I either use the Flatpak version which is always updated with the latest release or I use David Whiting's script to build on Ubuntu ( https://lists.gnucash.org/pipermail/gnucash-user/2021-October/097864.html) - clones the git repository locally and as a newbie to building on Linux it was easy to follow and worked like a charm :-)
