The Check & Repair is to be done after each major version upgrade.

Since you're getting a crash, (on more than one data file?) I'd recommend obtaining the output the devs are looking for using the links David sent. (all documented on the Wiki)

I don't know if they need just the Windows info, or if obtaining the same on Ubuntu will help too.

Then submit a bug report on Bugzilla: bugs.gnucash.org.

You'll need to register an account there first of course.

Describe the crash and attach the requested files.
