I believe I had the same issue on a similar platform -- mine is an M1 iMac
instead of an M1 MacBook Pro, but I was playing around right after I
installed it. I ran a report that showed nothing (apparently needed some
options set). I selected Options, and GnuCash crashed.

I've avoided doing that since.
