I was just about to suggest snapshots when I read this reply. If you
want to stick with on OS for all machines, virtual or real and keep your
infrastructure simple - that's what I would do.
Of course, those snapshots will deviate by more than just GC if you
don't keep them all up to date regularly.
And if you're light on physical hardware resources or concerned about
background services, check out BlackViper. That site has saved me
countless times and helped me slim down Windows installations to only
what I really needed. (some things in Win10 are quite persnickety and
persistent, like XBox stuff for some reason, but I'm sure someone on the
web has figured them out) One of the first things I do in Windows VMs is
turn off all of the fancy graphics. It ends up looking like Win2000, but
I don't care if it runs faster. And of course, you'd want to do all of
that *before* creating your snapshots to save time.
