I found it. Never noticed it before.
Simply click 'File' in the main menu and a menu drops down and beneath
'properties' at the bottom of it I have 4 gnucash books listed, named,
numbered.If I hover over any one of them the full path is displayed at the
bottom of the gnucash window.
Too easy. Just exactly what I was looking for. They anticipated me years ago.

I didn't know this was possible, so I tried it on my M1 iMac running 14.6.1
and it didn't work.
