It might be that this really isn't a GNC issue and file may not be corrupt
but simply locked by the OS.

At least I know Windows OS (and *nix using NFS) would place a lock on a file
(not seen by GNC) on a network/remote share (possibly mapped/masked as a
local device) as well if there was an attempt to open it by double clicking,
another app (like notepad) interfered with it and crashed (because file was
too large to open or some other reasons). In that case you would have to
shut down all devices that has access to that network drive (also referred
to as NAS) at the same time, and then reboot the remote device hosting the
files before it can be reopened properly. There are OS level tools that can
tell you if that is the case, but that is beyond this thread here.

Your best bet is graceful shutdown of all devices in the environment that
access that network device , and then powering back up starting from the
remote device hosting it.

Hi Dan.

That is a worry. others have explained the lock file. But I wonder if your
data file is in some way corrupted and GC crashes trying to open the data
file?
What exactly do you mean by "nothing happens"? Does the dialogue box asking
about "open anyway" vanish after you click the button?

Firstly, I'd try and open the file from a local copy - ie not on the network
- to eliminate file permissions problems and network issues.

If GC continues to be stubborn, I'd go and try a backup file from before the
issue cropped up (both on the LAN and a local copy)

HTH,
Maf.
