Ok, I read the rest of the thread so hopefully I won't suggest anything else 
silly and get surprised. Sorry I don't personally use flatpack and didn't even 
think to check if you were using it.

This should launch it and allow you to generate reports without crashing:

flatpak run --env=WEBKIT_DISABLE_COMPOSITING_MODE=1 org.gnucash.GnuCash

If it does I can show you how to make it permanent so launching it normally 
works.
