Hi John,

I need to correct a few things clearly.

Cashdera is not being sold. It is free, and the current Cashdera feature set is intended to remain free.

I did not post here to get “free test engineering services.” I posted because Cashdera is a local companion tool for GnuCash users, and this list is where people understand GnuCash workflows, file structures, reporting limitations, and local-first accounting concerns.

To be clear:

 * Cashdera does not replace GnuCash.
 * Cashdera does not modify the original GnuCash book.
 * Cashdera does not upload financial data.
 * Cashdera has no account system, no server sync, and no telemetry.
 * Cashdera builds a local SQLite cache for analytics and reporting.
 * The current features are free.

I also think it is important for the community to know that some of the strongest criticism is not coming from a neutral user. At least one person repeatedly criticizing Cashdera is also promoting his own GnuCash reporting/analytics project in the same community. That is relevant context.

I have no problem with fair technical criticism. If someone says the import is wrong, the calculations are wrong, the reports are not useful, or the documentation is unclear, I want to hear that.

But it is not fair to present Cashdera as some kind of paid extraction attempt when it is a free local tool, does not collect data, and does not modify the user’s book.

If this mailing list has a clear rule that third-party GnuCash-related tools should not be announced here, I will respect that rule. But I do not think it is fair to allow one related reporting project to be discussed while treating another local companion tool as unwelcome simply because of assumptions about future monetization.

Regards,
Ars

As a reminder, John Ralls responded to Cashdera:

"BS. You “shared" it because the people on this list are your target market:
It’s not like your program would be useful to anyone who isn’t a GnuCash user.

You might not be charging for the “public beta” but it’s clear that you’re
planning to charge for the final product. That’s not “free” in any sense of the
word. The only thing free here is what you’re trying to get: Free advertising
and free test engineering services.

That’s not welcome here.

Regards,
John Ralls"

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share the 0.2.0 release of Cashdera, a local Windows desktop
