I'm fairly sure Monte-Carlo techniques could be a valuable addition to GNU Go, if employed carefully.
It would be very interesting for the thinking on opponent's time case...
For instance, if I was playing Gnu Go in the background on my computer, and got busy, and it came back and crushed me...
