As I explained in earlier messages today, socket support can be compiled successfully on OS/X which can be tested by telnetting into a gtp engine.
However the configure test fails. Here is a patch that addresses this issue: http://sporadic.stanford.edu/bump/gnugo/patches/gnugo-3.8/socket_configure_8.1 A better approach would be to revise the configure test. However if any patch is to be made for this problem in GNU Go 3.8 it should be conservative. This patch is conservative since it makes no change to configure's behavior unless the configure test fails, and the user explicitly requests --enable-socket-support, disregarding a warning.
