GNUnet's "util" module contains some functionality that is different on every supported platform (BSD, Win, Linux, Solaris(?), ...). IMHO (I don't know for real), "GNU" doesn't mean much. Every platform needs to be investigated and existing code has to be ported there. If you're lucky, the Solaris stuff works on Nexenta for example.
