Thanks, I will do that later.

Additional information:

Before Ubuntu 24.04 I ran 16.04 with gpgsm 2.1.11

With that 2.1.11 version I could successfully import my last
certificate, that was issued in 2023. 

Just now I tried to import it with my current 2.4.4 version and it
failed with the same error message.

So it rather seems to be a gpgsm problem, but I will do what you
suggested and report back
