With Mono popularity increasing, a lot of core software like D-BUS
starting to provide Mono bindings and Mono support. Also, number of
applications using Mono growing. We need to include Mono
in Alpha 2 if we want newer versions of Rhythmbox, D-BUS and other
software which I'm not aware of yet.
With lately fixes in libgc, we know should be able to compile latest Mono
from Ubuntu/Dapper with boehm's GC.
