#216: emacs21 does not work

If I try to run emacs normally, I get the following error:

Warning: arch-dependent data dir (/home/work/emacs21/debian/pkg-el-
all/usr/lib/emacs/21.4/i486-solaris/) does not exist.
Warning: arch-independent data dir (/home/work/emacs21/debian/pkg-el-

If I run emacs in text-only mode, it starts up fine, but the following
errors show up in my *Messages* buffer:

I guess one of the emacs packages is not putting the .elc's in the right
place.
