I think this is related to #229. I was getting segfaults starting with
Alpha 2 before I cleared out any potentially related dotfiles in ~ from
Alpha 1. I'm not really sure what made the difference, but synaptic at
least quit segfaulting and now just exhibits the behavior described in
#229.
Please try to reproduce with a clean ~.
