Hi Dalmazio,
Well, actually, there is an entry on the "Articulatory synthesis" page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Articulatory_synthesis
the relevant bit appears in the "Commercial models" section which
reads as follows:
Commercial Models
One of the few commercial articulatory speech synthesis systems is
the NeXT-based system originally developed and marketed by Trillium
Sound Research, a spin-off company of the University of Calgary,
where much of the original research was conducted. Following the
demise of the various incarnations of NeXT (started by Steve Jobs
in the late 1980s and merged with Apple Computer in 1997), the
Trillium software was published under a GNU General Public Licence,
with work continuing as gnuspeech. The system, first marketed in
1994, provides full articulatory-based text-to-speech conversion
using a waveguide or transmission-line analog of the human oral and
nasal tracts controlled by Rene Carré's "distinctive region
model"[14].
and the reference points to René Carré's web page. It was, in fact,
the presence of the red letter (i.e. "not in the Wikipedia") word
"gnuspeech" in that section (which was an edited version of a longer
piece I had put in and in which the other editor put "gnuspeech" in
double square brackets in the edited version leading to the missing
reference) that caused me to add a page for Gnuspeech itself. Which
makes it all the stranger that they now have marked it as under
threat of removal.
There is another entry on the "Speech synthesis" page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speech_synthesis
in the section headed "Articulatory synthesis" which reads as follows:
Until recently, articulatory synthesis models have not been
incorporated into commercial speech synthesis systems. A notable
exception is the NeXT-based system originally developed and
marketed by Trillium Sound Research, a spin-off company of the
University of Calgary, where much of the original research was
conducted. Following the demise of the various incarnations of NeXT
(started by Steve Jobs in the late 1980s and merged with Apple
Computer in 1997), the Trillium software was published under the
GNU General Public License, with work continuing as gnuspeech. The
system, first marketed in 1994, provides full articulatory-based
text-to-speech conversion using a waveguide or transmission-line
analog of the human oral and nasal tracts controlled by Carré's
"distinctive region model".
Maybe I need to contact the real Wikipedia editors for clarification.
Thanks for the suggestion anyway.
Warm regards.

Hi David,
What about making an entry in Wikipedia entry under the heading
"Speech Synthesis"? I looked at this article, and there is no
reference to the Gnuspeech project, and yet the topic seems to be
covered in some detail.
Perhaps having this other wikipedia article reference the Gnuspeech
project article, and have the Gnuspeech project reference the
general speech synthesis Wikipedia article might satisfy these
requirements...
Best,
Dalmazio
Hi people,
I see that the Wikipedia entry for Gnuspeech:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gnuspeech
is under threat of removal -- as in:
"This article may not meet the general notability guideline.
Please help to establish notability by adding reliable, secondary
sources about the topic. If notability cannot be established, the
article is likely to be merged or deleted. (November 2008)
This article needs sources or references that appear in reliable
third-party publications. Primary sources or those affiliated
with the subject are generally not sufficient for a Wikipedia
article. Please include more appropriate citations from reliable
sources. (November 2008)"
Anyone any suggestions? "Secondary sources" and "reliable third
party" references are needed. Any suggestions for improvement
would be welcome.
Thanks.
