There are a lot of 10.5 additions which have been implemented, but we don't have them all. GNUstep uses a backend architecture. Drawing and event code are separated out into gnustep-back so that graphics and event handling code can easily be retargeted to any platform. Currently the Cairo based backend is the default, but there exist backends for libart, GDI and raw X11.
